I'm about to go pick up my big first grader from her first day of school. She was SO excited to go back that she had that nervous/excited continuous talking going on all morning. Even on our way to school she said that she couldn't believe that she just couldn't stop talking. I told her to make sure she got it all out now because she'd have to quiet down in class! I'm sure getting up the extra hour and a half will start to show later in the week, but she bounced out of bed this morning and we were ready in record time. We are also going to experiment with her walking a bit more on her own. Last year I picked her up right at the crossing guard in the back of the school. This year, she can cross and then walk down to the end of the street. Just another physical reminder for me to let her do more and more on her own as she gets older. It's exciting, but I have missed her today. I am a total June Cleaver and just baked some chocolate chip cookies for her when she gets home. Wouldn't you love to see a picture of her on her first day. Yeah...would love to show you but it's on my 35 mm. Plus I have low memory on the computer so I probably won't even be able to upload the pic when it's put on a CD anyway. So, she looked cute in her new outfit and missing front teeth. I'm sure you can imagine it.

Was going to get on that new digital camera but decided to sell my couch and other family room furniture instead. So I have been on a couch shopping frenzy as it wasn't as easy as it seemed it would be at the time. Thought I'd have a couch delivered tomorrow but after shopping more stores than I care to count and then driving over to Stacy Furniture in Allen like a crazy person, we will have a couch sometime in October. Oh well......... That on top of having to get a new cell phone. That is another experience. But I did spend some time trying to find that right ring tone. I'm not so much a country music girl, but this Kenny Chesney song stuck out for me, so here are the words to my ringtone:

Well, I'm what I am and I'm what I'm not
And I'm sure happy with what I've got
I live to love and laugh alot
And that's all I need

Random musings today.............
My friend Kris 'blog -tagged' me to make this list so I can't pass up writing about me! Here are the rules:
The Rules:
1. I have to post these rules before I give you the facts.
2. Each player starts with 8 random facts/habits about themselves.
3. People who are tagged need to write their own blog (about their 8 things) and post these rules.
4. At the end of your blog, you need to choose 8 people to get tagged and list their names.
5. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

Here we go:
  1. I don't like opening packaged biscuit cans. I will wake up someone in the house (if I can) before opening it myself. Ask Jen - she just experienced it with pizza dough.
  2. I'd much rather have an extra glass of wine at dinner than a dessert. Any dessert except for maybe Key Lime Pie, depends on how I'm feeling that day.
  3. Most of the time, my idea of clean is a 'once over'. I'm not that freaky about germs.
  4. I don't like it when my sheets are not tucked in at the bottom of my mattress. It's too much of a mess if you are not tucked in at night.
  5. I read the paper every day and always read the obituaries. Some people have some really good stories and led some interesting lives. My mom reads them too so sometimes we have conversations about people we don't even know!
  6. Sometimes I dream that all my teeth fall out.
  7. I secretly want a dog. I can bring home many things without my husband knowing but I can't figure out how to get a dog in the house. Plus, I have to build a fence so don't drop any strays on my porch yet!
  8. I have been known to play on Webkinz by myself.

There you go. I only know one other person who blogs so you are it Valarrie! Have fun! Can't wait to see what you write.

As for us, we went to Port Aransas for a few days with the family. The water was warm and the kids loved it. It was pretty relaxing but a wise friend once said that you must call your vacation only a vacation when it's you and your husband, otherwise it is a family trip. Because you are really just taking your same show on the road. There are always meals to plan, snacks to have and bathroom trips to make. The one plus we had this year was that we didn't have to have naps so the day was ours. We got a little too much sun one day, but other than that, we had a great time. Plus I love any time that I can hang out with my extended family. We always just wish it could be longer. I would post a pic, but apparently I'm so low on memory that my computer can hardly run. So I need to take some pictures off before adding some more. And we all know I have SO much time for that.

Other than that, I'm just trying to figure out how to raise an almost 4 year old boy without losing my mind. It's been a difficult couple of weeks topped off with him killing his sister's fish. That did me in and after I lost my mind, I went back to what I always do, find a parenting book to read. Working on getting through one of James Dobson's books called Raising Boys. Has some pretty interesting stuff on it although I don't really agree with all of it so I'm trying not to cast all the info. aside. Mainly I have refused to argue with him about anything and everything. Last week one day started with us arguing about what day it was. Our interaction at breakfast pretty much sets the tone for the day. So we are looking forward to school starting and getting a break from each other. We've got 1 week left with Aubrey and Brody has 2 weeks. I guess we'll have to start getting up earlier next week to prepare! We have really enjoyed sleeping in. That has been my favorite part of summer.
